Party Ready

I received these prescription glasses from GlassesShop.com free of charge for my honest review.

Guys, the people over at GlassesShop.com made my dreams come true by sending me over a pair of prescription sunglasses! I've been wanting to get a pair for a while now and I'm so happy with how these bad boys look! The gold colored details make them seem super fancy, and that makes me feel pretty darn fancy wearing them. Big glasses frames for life.

Being able to get glasses online is one of the best things to come out of the internet. When I was younger I hated the limited selection at a store, but as an adult, I'm happy to see there an apparently endless supply! If you guys are looking for a pair of new glasses you can head over to GlassesShop.com and use code GSHOT50 to get 50% off on eyeglasses and sunglasses with free lenses (sale frames excluded). You can't beat that!

Now on to the rest of the outfit, chances are if you invite me to a party this holiday season there is 99% chance I will be wearing this exact outfit. I mean, it's super festive, right? Especially with the big letters spelling out ALONE on the sweatshirt, haha. No, but seriously I'm rarely invited to fancy parties, and the parties I am invited to are more casual (which is just my style), so this outfit would be perfect.

Ok, look, I'm in desperate need of some new hairstyles. This tends to be the point where I just chop it all off because I have no clue what to do with it besides a messy top knot. I feel like everytime I look on Pinterest the styles take too long to actually accomplish or would look pretty darn silly on my head. So I guess what I am looking for is something as quick and simple as a top knot, but not a top knot. Ok thanks, bye haha!

Hat Season

Hat Season - Phoenix Blogger - littleladylittlecity.com
Guys it is finally starting to cool off here in Phoenix and I am so freaking happy! This year definitely has been a lot hotter than last year, I mean it's after Halloween and we are finally getting our highs down to the mid to high 80's haha.

This outfit is one of my recent favorites, it's just so simple, and it looks great with my yellow hair. This shirt was actually one I found at a thrift store for Will, but it was a little too small for him so I took it. It is just a little bigger than I would want, but I still think it looks good, especially tucked in.

Date Night on a Weekday Morning

Phoenix Blogger Little Lady Little City Jean Vest Peach Dress Yellow Hair
Being that we're self-employed we don't always get weekends off (if we even get any weekends at all), so Will and I are trying to be better about stealing away some time at least once a week. Last week we had my Dad come over to watch baby man so we could go see Baby Driver.  Going out was a great excuse to get dressed up in something other than my super comfy (super stained) lounge wear, haha.

The theater was unexpectedly small, so when we first arrived we totally thought we might have the theater all to ourselves (which is one of the best experiences ever). Sadly, a couple other people came in, and sat right behind us. Le boo.

The movie was fantastic, though, and I'm really glad we got to see it on the big screen and enjoy some contraband candy. The action was a ton of fun, and it's so steeped with references it'll take me a while to unpack it all. Dates are fun, we need to do more! I'll have to tell my baby.

Overalls All Day Everyday

Green Overalls -Yellow Hair - Phoenix Blogger - littleladylittlecity.com
Guys, 90's fashion has been coming back for a little bit and now and I'm pretty ok with it. In the actual 90's I was a middle schooler, and let's just say I hit an awkward phase real hard. I basically just rocked oversized shirts and overalls all the time which was not a great combo, haha. So I'm freaking thrilled to get a chance to try it again with these fitted overalls, and in green nonetheless!

It has been so hot and humid here lately, ughs, I'm definitely jealous hearing about the start of the autumn weather that other bloggers have already started to feel. My hair is definitely not made for any amount of humidity, so I am definitely looking forward to our Phoenix "winters." Until then, I'll start to decorate the house as if autumn is actually starting to show it's cool head, haha.

Other than the excitment I feel over my overalls ( :p ), things have been pretty quiet around here. We got back from our quick trip to Indianapolis last week and then spent the week trying to recover from a cold we all caught while on the trip. Thankfully, everyone is doing much better, though poor baby still has a very nasty sounding cough (I swear coughs seem to last FOREVER, especially for kids).  Well, I hope you all are doing well.

Summer Style Staples

Phoenix Blogger Summer Style Staples - littleladylittlecity.com
Well, I'll say it again, how the heck is it already August?! I swear this year is just flying by quicker than any other. Summer has been pretty low key around here, baby man had swim lessons (the class was 6 months - 3 years old so it was a little advanced for him, but he seemed to enjoy it), and we've been enjoying the local splash pad. I am definitely looking forward to the cooler weather again so we can do some more morning hikes and walks around the neighborhood. I also wouldn't mind getting through this humidity that has been sticking around lately, my hair and humidity do not mix. These photos were only taken about 3 hours after straightening, haha! My hair, for the most part, is totally straight except for around my face, and those bad boys have a curly mind of their own.

This has been my go to outfit as of late, it's just incredibly comfortable. I feel like it's definitely the type of comfy that doesn't just look like stay at home wear, I can easily chase baby around the house or jump in the car and run to the store (and by store I almost always mean Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or Dutch Bros for coffee, haha). I actually bought three of these tops in different colors because I love them and there were on super sale for only $2 each! So you will probably end up seeing the other ones relatively soon.

What are some of your favorite clothing staples that you've been rocking this summer?

Life Lately

Life Lately - littleladylittlecity.com
I can hardly believe it's already July! Where the heck did the first half of the year go?! Things are going pretty well here, I'm keeping busy with baby man who is basically a full blown toddler now! *emoji crying face*

It has been almost unbearably hot in Phoenix, so we've been spending lots of time in the pool or hunkered down inside (which means lots of TV shows and Netflix when baby man's sleeping). I am excitingly waiting for our first official monsoon of the season, it has been ridiculously humid the last couple of days, so I feel like it could be any day now.

The only thing we really have planned for the rest of summer is a family wedding out in mid-west next month. I'm actually a little nervous about this flight because baby man is definitely a certified toddler with way too much energy, and that's not a fun flight ingredient. Let's be honest, the majority of people on a plane are not looking forward to a rambunctious toddler a plane, let alone one that likes to climb and grab (even if he gives out plenty of cute little waves with his chunky arms.) Thankfully, we are flying out with some other family members, so hopefully, between all of us, we can keep him entertained. If you guys have any tips or tricks for flying with a toddler PLEASE SHARE :)

What have you guys been doing this summer?

Just Hanging Around

I received this Pet Magasin Cat Hammock at no charge in exchange for my honest opinion.
Pet Magsin Cat Hammock - littleladylittlycity.com
As you all probably already know I love my cats and getting them fun things that I think they will like. Enter: the Pet Magasin Cat Hammock. I really like the natural wood and how sturdy it is, it even looks perfect by the front window. It was shipped in pieces to assemble, but assembling it was straight forward and gave me confidence that it was easily capable of holding up my two floofs. Because they have a window seat on the sliding glass door in the back of the house, I figured this would work perfectly in the front window so they'd have a secondary perch to watch birds from. Now I just need to get get some nice house plants to make it even homier for the cats.
Pet Magsin Cat Hammock - littleladylittlycity.com
Although the build is good and the spot is great, both cats have only expressed interest in sniffing the hammock so far. No doubt there's a learning curve, so I've been liberally applying treats to the surface to encourage them to give it a try. They haven't taken me up on the hammock, but they are finding ways to get their paws on the treats, haha. Once they actually get a hang of it, they are going to have to learn to share because I have a feeling they are both going to want to use it.

If you think your cat or cats would love to have themselves a hammock you can get 30% off using this code 5F2WSQO4 at either Pet Magsin or Amazon.

Babies Really Love Destroying Eyeglasses

I received glasses from GlassesShop.com free of charge for my honest review.
New colored eyeglasses, glasses frames, littleladylittlecity.com
Babies dig glasses, and not in the 'oh those look great on you' kind of way, but more of a 'I NEED THEM IN MY MOUTH' kind of way, haha. I've already lost one of my favorite pairs to baby man's teeth *insert crying emoji here*. If you look under my right eye you can even see the little cut his tiny little nails gave me while he was flailing at my glasses. This is why I am always on the look out for some new cute and inexpensive glasses, and when GlassesShop.com contacted me to review a pair of their eyeglasses I jumped at the chance.

I had been thinking about trying out some fun colored glasses frames for a while, so when I saw these guys I knew they were the ones. I feel like my mom would be proud of my choice, she was always a big glasses kind of gal, haha. I like them! I never know when I order glasses online if I'm going to get in the mail what I chose on the website, but in this case, I was pleasantly surprised. The build quality feels good, and at the price point, I'm confident wearing them every day without having to be precious about them. Nevertheless, as of right now, I am being very careful with them when baby man is up. It makes me feel a little fancier having a special (scratch free) pair of glasses, because for now, I've got a little glasses gremlin crawling over me on the reg.

I am hoping that as baby gets bigger he will become less interested in my glasses and I can have several that match my mood (or even a pair of prescription sunglasses) instead of my current setup: one good pair and a couple permanently marked with baby teeth.

If you guys are looking for a new pair of glasses because there's a baby in your life, or for any other reason, you can use this code GSHOT50 and get 50% off for all eyeglasses and sunglasses with free lenses with the exception of sales frames.

And just for good measure, I give you a gif of what I look like in about 9 out of 10 photos we end up taking. I still never know what to do with my arms. Haha!

Introducing Care Flair

Care Flair enamel pin - Pinning it to the man - careflair.org - littleladylittlecity.com
For months now it has been nothing but awful news about our new government and their plans to defund or dismantle so many incredible organizations. I'm on the floor at night sometimes like "wtf, dude-- National Parks? Really?." It's left me feeling really hopeless at times. I mean, I'm just one lady with a baby under one, and there are only so many hours in the day. After commiserating with my husband after a particularly nasty bit of news about new plans to defund Planned Parenthood, it all clicked together: a way to focus all our little efforts into a bigger force. I'm calling it Care Flair, pins to show your support on your sleeve and online where 100% of the profits from all Protest and Ally Pins go straight to organizations that need our help. Each pin supports a unique cause and gives each of us a way of resupplying the organizations we believe while making a statement of support or protest.
I'm starting with pins that support National Park Foundation and Planned Parenthood, I hoping to add a lot more over the coming years.

There are also digital downloads that you can buy that have a portion of the price go to charity as well. What I love about these prints is that is not only do they look super awesome hanging up but if you have a cutter they can be made into some kickass t-shirts like I did here and here.

I am so excited that I was able to make this idea a reality and honestly, I am very proud of myself for getting this all put together. Ever since having baby man stealing away some free time to work on things outside of work and him has not been the easiest.

Nursery Before and After

Nursery Before and After - littleladylittlecity.com
Almost a year ago to date, I shared progress photos of the room that would become our nursery. I think the reason it took so long for this post to actually happen was that even after we "finished" the nursery it still didn't feel like Felix's. We still had a ton of moving boxes waiting to be sorted, and honestly, it was that way for a little while because Felix slept in our room for the first several months. Finally, though, we got it all cleared out, so it is now official his room.
Nursery Before and After - littleladylittlecity.com
This was originally a patio that the previous owners closed in to make a really long Arizona room. They even left the original sliding glass door inside the house. It was goofy looking, to say the least, but we put up a dividing wall to create two rooms, changed the flooring, and removed that old ceiling fan. There was just soooo much blue carpet, it seriously reminded me of a cruise ship, haha.
Nursery Before and After - littleladylittlecity.com
This accent wall ended up taking a lot longer than I anticipated. I made sure to spend the extra money and buy the painter's tape that was supposed to make sure your paint lines stay crisp, and that totally did not happen. There were fuzzy lines everywhere! So I ended up spending the next several days during month 8 of being pregnant repainting all the lines. I think it was worth the extra time cleaning it all, though, because I think it looks pretty great.
Nursery Before and After - littleladylittlecity.com
My childhood mobile is a little worn, but it still plays music and entertains Felix.
Nursery Before and After - littleladylittlecity.com
A lot of the nursery's decor is made up of a combination of things from our childhood and new things. I love having many of these little stuffed animals from Will's childhood paired up with this little Phoenix print from Modern Map Art. I added the green behind the Phoenix print and I think it really pops. The city, and each of these characters, have such a special place in our hearts, so they are just the absolute perfect pair.
Nursery Before and After - littleladylittlecity.com
I really love how is whole room came together, it's fun to think about how far we brought the space. Just a couple years ago we'd torn it down to the studs and Will was stuffing insulation into the walls. Without intending to we made the perfect space for Felix, and having been able to shape it from start to finish has made it incredibly special. As best as I can tell I think baby man really likes it too.

Women's March Phoenix

Women's March Phoenix AZ 2017 - littleladylittlecity.com
Over the weekend our little family made its way downtown to partake in the Women's March. Before we got there I really didn't know what to expect, but I was still absolutely blown away by the just how many people turned out. It's been reported that more than 20,000 people showed up! As I understand it, the numbers even shocked the event coordinators. I'm so proud of my home state coming together and support one another.

You might have already seen this photo over on my Instagram, but I wanted to share it here too. Felix is why I marched, I hope to show him that the voices of the people can be powerful. I want him to learn to be a good person, one who treats everyone with kindness and respect, to see that love does trump hate, and to be on the side of progress. I hope his generation will take what we're doing today and continue to push forward toward equality.

Did any of you all make it out to a march? If so, share links to your blog posts/photos in the comments, I'd love to see them!

Hello 2017

Hello 2017 -littleladylittlecity.com
Hello, 2017! I'm finally getting a post up, and only 16 days into the new year. I'm really hoping that this isn't a sign of what blogging will be like this year. 29 posts in 2016 is a little sad, haha. Honestly, I still feel a little torn with how much to share about Felix, I have really mixed feelings about it. On one hand, he basically is the cutest kid and I just want to share all the pictures, but on the other, he doesn't really have a say on this whole thing and one day he may not like it. Does any other blogging parents out there feel that way? I guess for now there will be the occasional photo of him on the blog and over on my Instagram

In general, I feel like I am in pretty good company when I say 2016 had it's ups and downs for sure, and 2017 is definitely going to be a lot of the same. I'm hopeful, this year, for a lot more ups than downs! Happy New Year everyone!
