What I'm Watching : Jupiter Ascending

What I'm Watching : Jupiter Ascending - littleladylittlecity.com
The other day we went and saw Jupiter Ascending with my dad, and --Spoiler Alert-- we all wish we hadn't. Before I get into all the of bad (and trust me there was a LOT of bad) I'd like to point out that there is some good. By some I really mean the two things that the movie had going for it.

First, this movie is probably one of the most beautiful I've seen in a long time. From the costumes to the special effects and everything in between, it is just gorgeous. The dresses they fashioned for Mila Kunis to wear were absolutely breathtaking, especially the one pictured above. All of the outer space sequences just blew my mind as well. Oh, and there was this scene with bees-- just so beautiful and so well done. As someone who does very minor computer effects I can appreciate how much talent/skill is involved, not to mention the amount of people/man hours it takes to pull stuff like that off.

Second is Sean Bean. Really, that's it. I like him as an actor so I'm excited anytime he shows up.

As for the bad, my dad summed it up well when he said "very pretty move, probably would have been better on mute." The story was just a train wreck from the get-go with trope after trope. It's a tale as old as time: girl has horrible life, wants something more, only to (SPOILER ALERT) find out she's the reincarnation of a queen from another planet. (End Spoiler) We then go on a convoluted story with some of the worst dialogue I've heard for about 40 minutes too long. Truth be told, I'm not sure why studios are still giving The Wachowskis so much money to make these movies without getting someone other than them to write the screenplays. I know they can assemble a great team to create a beautiful movie, but this one was just another example of of bad stories/dialogue written by them. Jupiter Ascending was suppose to have been released July of 2014, but they held it until February of this year because the special effects needed more work. It's very telling of a big budget when a studio goes from releasing it during the summer season to February, where movies go to die (kids movies exception).

Basically what I'm saying is if you are a fan of special effects, or if this movie happens to be on tv and you have a really great magazine by your side, then maybe you should watch it. What movies have you seen that were visually wonderful but the story was lack luster? Or what's one of the worst movies you've seen recently?

House Painting

Arizona House Painting - littleladylittlecity.com
Will and I spent all weekend painting the house. There was so much painting to be done. During the construction phase we fixed and added a few walls, so we needed to color match paint to get everything old and new working together. Every brand seems to treat colors differently, so more often than not we had to paint an entire surface, even if we only needed to cover a small patch. Side note as you can see I'm keeping it very real with this picture of myself looking a super hot mess, especially my hair. Ack! Definitely time for a root touch up and a recolor!

We also got this really beautiful apple green color for our hallway, but once we applied it we realized it just is not working. Waah-waah, I guess it's back to the drawing board, but I think we'll take it back to white and try a geometric pattern. I swear the color in person is so wonderfully pretty, but this photo seriously kind of makes it look like baby vomit, ughs. Man, who would have though a fun colored hallway could go so wrong? Haha. Thank goodness it's only paint.

While we had some slight setbacks with the green paint, the yellow we chose for one of our living room walls is perfection. It makes me so happy to just look at. I can't hardly wait to get our furniture (what little bit we have) into the house! I definitely have ideas about what stuff we're missing, so hopefully we are able to find it without spending much. Goodwill here we come!

Do you guys have any favorite places to shop for furniture or home decor? Any online places I should really check out?

Getting To Know You (Err Me)

Getting To Know You (Err Me) - littleladylittlecity.com

1. I'm still not completely over the fact that I finished Gilmore Girls and that I have no more new episodes. As silly as it sounds I really feel like I said goodbye to a whole bunch of really great friends. Ahh, I need something to help fill the void! Any suggestions?

2. Last year I learned about the wonders of the waffle brownie and have never looked back! This way you get pretty much all the yummy brownie edges in a fraction of the time. Plus, it's a brownie in the shape of a waffle, so honestly it can't get much better than that.

3. I'm so in love with the bright colored lip look, especially the pinks and oranges. I just feel like I can't pull them off, sadly. That doesn't stop me from buying them and trying them out at home (when I'm not going out) only to come to same conclusion every time: no.

4. I'm the worst at remembering to recharge the camera battery. Half the time, when I'm ready to go take some outfit photos, the battery is totally dead. You would think after the first couple of times I would be better at remembering, haha.

5. Several hours everyday Wigs and Sylvester get to enjoy the great outdoors in the safety of my dad's atrium, hehe. After the first couple of times of them going out I thought they would have explored every inch and become super board with it, but they haven't yet. It's funny almost every morning around 10:30 they are at the door wanting to go out, haha.

6. I recently saw an episode of Vanderpump Rules and I am now kind of obsessed! Thank goodness for Bravo on Demand which allowed me to catch up on this season. Gah so addicting!

Feel free to share a random fact or two about yourself in the comments. I love learning more about you all!

Getting To Know You (Err Me) is a little series that I do from time to time on my blog as a way to share some random and usually silly things about myself you might otherwise never know.

Tell Ghost Stories

I am so in love with this "Tell Ghost Stories By the Campfire" sweatshirt by Maiden Voyage Clothing Co. I got during one of ModCloth's fancy little sales. and it seriously is my new jam. One of the best things about this sweater is that it totally glows in the dark! How freaking awesome is that?!

This Valentine's weekend was wonderfully chill and full of relaxing on the couch and catching up some TV shows. It was perfection.  Valentine's Day has never really been all that important for Will and I, and honestly if it weren't for all the in your-face-chocolates, flowers, and hearts (oh so many hearts) I don't think we'd even remember. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't hate Valentine's Day (I do love me some yummy chocolates), I just think the idea of it has gotten a little crazy. I actually find February 15th to be a much more important day, a day that I call HALF OF CHOCOLATE DAY! Haha, you can tell where my priorities lie.

As I was taking these photos our neighbor's cat decided to steal the show. This fella, who we call Pantherman or just Black Kitty, is one of sweetest cats I've ever met. He just loves coming over to you for some pets all the while just chatting away.  He's pretty darn adorable with his old man white hairs showing up on his chest.

Hopefully this week our drywall guy will finish up at our house so we can get over there and start painting! Ahhhh, we are getting so close! I can hardly believe that soon we will be living in our little place almost a year after buying it. I guess that's what happens when you buy a little house in a state you only stay in for part of the year haha. I have a feeling there are going to be some more before and middle photos making their way on the blog here soon :)

Happy Monday!

Love Hate Pinterest Relationship

Our Arizona house will be the very first time I've ever actually decorated a place, and while it isn't all that big I am totally overwhelmed. Anytime I've lived in an apartment I always knew it was just for a short amount of time, so I never really wanted to put the time and effort into making it feel more like a home than just an apartment. In addition, the mountain house is still so unfinished we haven't really done anything besides our wall mural.

So, while Pinterest has been a lifesaver of sorts for inspiration, it has inadvertently left me feeling a little overwhelmed, there is just so many amazing things out there. Although I totally know that some of (ok, probably a lot of) those home decor photos you find are totally done by people who decorate for a living, I can't help feel like our place will never compete which sadly makes me feel a little bad. I have spent way too many hours late at night scrolling and scrolling through Pinterest visualizing how I can do something similar to our little house.

What are your thoughts on Pinterest? Do you ever feel overwhelmed by it when trying to find a new project to try out? Hopefully I'm not the only one with this love hate relationship of Pinterest.

Arizona House Remodel

Arizona House Remodel - littleladylittlecity.com
While these photos might make it appear otherwise, the remodel of our little Arizona house is coming along quite nicely! We finished up everything that we wanted to do ourselves, and have now brought in professionals to more quickly do the drywall and insulation. Once those things are all done we will have ourselves a little painting party with pizza and beer to hopefully entice our friends to come over and help haha.

Our little Arizona Room needed the most work. Unfortunately, when the previous owner closed in the porch, they did so as cheaply as possible. Once we bought the place and started taking down the ugly wall paneling we noticed rotting wood from water damage and a severe lack of insulation in the walls and ceiling. We've brought AC out to the room, but without it the sun would have no doubt turn our little AZ Room into a hot box. Nobody wants that, so now every inch of the room is stuffed with insulation, yay!

It's so crazy to think about how close we are to actually being able to move into our little place, it seems like we've been working on it forever! You can check out previous posts of the remodel here,  which includes photos of what the place originally looked like with a crazy cruise ship blue carpet throughout haha!
