"To kick this off, I'll share that my favorite holiday treat is Pumpkin Pie. I know, it's totally basic, but a good homemade pumpkin pie is something I look forward to all year long. That and all the festive holiday coffee options-love!" - Angie from

"There's something just so classic and comforting about freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and a tall glass of cold milk. I bake them every year because the smell stirs up the best childhood memories." - Kimi from Kimi Who

"I recently made Buckeye Brookies! They are a twist on an old Ohio classic. I made them on Monday and by Wednesday they were totally devoured. Everyone loved them and was asking me when I was going to make them again! Looks like I've found my signature sweet treat!" - Stephanie from Wife Mommy Me

"I am definitely a sweet eater! I love just about any sweet, but when it comes around to the holidays, I'm in love with cream puffs. If you haven't ever had a cream puff, its a dough filled with a cream cheese mixture feeling. It is a must try this holiday!" - Ashley from Simply Ashley Nichole

"Churros with dulce de leche!, it's sweet and crunchy, and I just love the creaminess of the dulce de leche, it could also be Nutella!" - Gaila from Petit Gourmet

"My favorite holiday sweet treat is Christmas cookies. I love cookies year round, but the cookies my family makes around the holidays are super delicious. I love my Grandmama's shortbread and my Aunt's sugar cookies. I also like to make cookies and make some awesome chocolate chip cookies." - Christina from Cali Darling

"My favorite treat is homemade Caramel Apple Pie. I'm not great at baking but I can make some delicious pie and this one is by far my best. I'm proud of it every time I cook it and it's absolutely delicious." - Bethany from Stella Kenton Body Shop

"My favorite holiday treat would have to be brownies or cookies, wait maybe Pie. Lol I love all three. How can I choose? But I do need them to have some time of holiday spirit on them such as peppermint." - Jasmine from Classy, Sassy, and a Bit Smartassy

"Definitely hot chocolate! Maybe with a shot of espresso? It reminds me of colder weather (I live in Florida!) and cozy blankets! There's a comfort in holding something warm." - Samantha from Samanthability

"Cookies....because who doesn't love cookies? :)" - Linda from Brunch with Joy

"Every Christmas, my grandparents in New Jersey ship us out kiffles from the Kiffle Kitchen Bakery in PA, and they're by far my favorite holiday sweet treat! Now that I'm across the country in AZ, it's nice to have a little something that reminds me of home during the holidays." - Nicole from Violet & Vine

Senior Shelter Pets with Rachael Ray

Senior Shelter Pets with Rachael Ray - littleladylittlecity.com
Today I'm partnering with Rachael Ray to talk about Senior Rescue Pets. Rachael Ray is a huge advocate of rescue animals having created Rachael's Rescue for all forgotten pets as well as donating all of her personal proceeds from sales of Nutrish and using them towards food, medical supplies and treatments for animals in need. I asked one of my favorite people on earth to share her story with her senior pet rescue, so take it away Megan.
Senior Shelter Pets with Rachael Ray - littleladylittlecity.com
I have a particular affection for older dogs. Just like people, they are set in their ways, maybe a little slower but all the wiser. Cookie came into my life very quickly after I lost my other elderly dog, Maisy. I wasn't looking to get another dog right away as I was so heartbroken over saying goodbye to my sweet lady. While my mom was looking on the Arizona Humane Society website for a friend, she came across this sweet little pug named Cookie.
Senior Shelter Pets with Rachael Ray - littleladylittlecity.com
I should back up to tell you, I am a certifiable crazy pug lady; Megan and pug go hand in hand for most people. Naturally, that meant a 6:00 am Saturday morning text from my mom telling me I needed to go get this girl. I was so torn, I wasn't sure I was ready again. It's so hard to fathom the thought of that loss again one day. Over lunch with friends, I had told them about Cookie and showed them a photo of her. By the end of lunch, we had all decided to make it a group effort and meet Cookie. When I arrived to the Humane Society, another woman and her son had just arrived to also look at Cookie. With a flip of a coin and a little luck, I was able to meet her first. It was love at first sniff and it was clear we would soon be great friends.
Senior Shelter Pets with Rachael Ray - littleladylittlecity.com
Cookie is now of the wonderful age of 8 and has sweet little white hairs popping up in her face with the spirit of a pup. She is the best companion and someone I know I can rely on at any time. I often ask myself who rescued who when I think of the love she's given me. I am so grateful for her in my life.

Megan and Cookie are absolute perfection together, they have such a wonderful and special relationship I just know it was meant to be. Thank you to Megan for sharing her story and so many wonderful photos of Cookie! If you want to learn more about Rachael Ray's work and Nutrish follow on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Spooky Days

Spooky Days - littleladylittlecity.com
For the last week or so Will and I have basically been living in Silent Hill (but without all the horrifying creatures trying to kill us haha). So of course we did the best thing we could think of, and took photos of ourselves in all the spooky fog. It's such a weird feeling waking up to this much fog everyday for a week, it really makes me just want to stay curled up in bed with a ton of hot tea.
Spooky Days - littleladylittlecity.com
Spooky Days - littleladylittlecity.com
This sweatshirt is my absolute jam, especially with all this crazy fog. Coolest thing about it is that it totally glows in the dark! Ahhh it's like all my childhood favorite things put together: ghosts/spooky things and anything that glows in the dark. I'm also very lucky this sweatshirt is crazy warm because we got a new wood stove for the mountain house and it takes a lot longer to heat up the whole house, so it's super chilly both inside and out while it gets going. Burrr. I'm definitely already looking forward to getting back to Phoenix and enjoying it's warmer winters.

Just as I finished writing up this post the fog lifted and we can actually see a couple feet in front of us again, but this picture of Will and I shows just how crazy the fog was for the past week, haha.

How was everyone's week going so far?

Walking the Cats - Rachael Ray Nutrish: Fur Real Moments

Walking the Cats - Rachael Ray Nutrish: Fur Real Moments - littleladylittlecity.com
Both Wigs and Sylvester were rescue kittens, but Sylvester's life started out the hardest. We found him in the middle of the road on a busy highway, poor guy, and were lucky enough to scoop him up before he got hurt. So because of their start in life it should be no surprise that we show them how much we absolutely adore their company by spoiling them rotten. One of our favorite ways to do so is to go on walks together around the mountain. While they are usually pretty good about walking, sometimes neither one is having it. To help them out we found a pair of pet backpacks, and truth be told I think Wigs enjoys being carried around (like the princess she thinks she is) more than walking, haha.
Walking the Cats - Rachael Ray Nutrish: Fur Real Moments - littleladylittlecity.com
One of the things I love about Rachael Ray is that she is also a huge animal lover.  She doesn't just talk the talk either, as Rachael's personal proceeds from sales of Nutrishish have gone toward food, medical supplies, and treatments for animals in need. And if that's not enough, the Nutrish brand makes food and treat recipes with simple ingredients like real meat and wholesome veggies, so you know it's good for your four legged friends.

Rachael Ray is actually doing a pretty fun little contest where you could win a year's supply of food as well as $1500! All you have to do is upload a picture of your furry friend and pick a caption from the site! So freaking easy you'd be silly not to enter. Just head over here to enter. If you do enter I would love to see what picture and caption you use so be sure to share it in the comments below. Good luck!

Hello Again

Mountain House - littleladylittlecity.com
So I had an unexpected trip back to Phoenix last week, hence the lack of posts, but I'm back on the mountain once again with a little Sylvester who won't leave my side (I think he missed me) and enjoying the crisp cool air that is signaling fall is just around the corner.

The day before I got back I had a wonderful little surprise: my blog has been shortlisted for the Bloggers Blog Award set up by Hayley over at Tea Party Beauty. To say I was shocked would be an understatement for sure! If you'd like to cast a vote my way I would be so thrilled, just head over here!

Hope you all are having a great Thursday!

What I'm Watching - Mission Impossible Rouge Nation

What I'm Watching - Mission Impossible Rouge Nation - littleladylittlecity.com
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Poster- via Paramount
Last week Will and I went to see Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, and it was amazing! When it comes to the Mission: Impossible movie series I was really underwhelmed when the first one came out, and truth be told the I felt the same way when the second one came out as well. I'm definitely the type of person that more or less keeps giving movies a chance, especially franchises (even if it's just watching it on DVD). I felt that the first two were trying to take themselves a little too seriously, but by the third they had hit their stride. When Simon Peg joined the crew and brought his human and charm with him in Ghost Protocol I was hooked! The marriage of action and comedy can really elevate a typical action movie into something better.
Just like most of Tom Cruise's action movies the stunt sequences are insane! Within the first five minutes of the movie we see him hanging onto the side of a plane as it takes off. Within the first. five minutes. On top of that, he did the stunt himself, and you can tell. A little aside about Tom Cruise: I use to not care for him all that much (thought a lot of his movies were overrated) and that feeling compounded when the whole 'glib' and Brooke Shields thing happened. However, time has passed and he's either kept a lower profile or maybe I just haven't been paying attention to him, and my dislike has subsided some. I have more recently been able to enjoy his movies, like Edge of Tomorrow. Did you guys see Edge of Tomorrow? So freaking good! He really does play such a charismatic leading man that I find it hard not to love him now. The Mission Impossible franchise 100% builds on that, and the filmmakers seem to go bigger for each installment. A lot of sequels water down the story with more explosions and action sequences (I'm looking at you, half assed Furious 7), but not so with MI: RN.

Since Ghost Protocol the Mission Impossibles movies seem to have found a groove with its core team: Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames (joined on in M:I:2), Simon Pegg, and Jeremy Renner (both joined M:I:III).  The addition of Rebecca Ferguson, a badass character who isn't a love interest, was the icing on the cake. I'm really hoping she will show up in the next installment (the franchise doesn't have the best track record with reoccurring female characters, something I'm willing to forgive if they continue adding great characters like Fergusons' in future movies).

So have you guys seen Mission: Impossible Rouge Nation yet or are you planning on seeing it?

Vintage Paint By Numbers Wall Mural

Vintage Paint By Numbers Wall Mural - littleladylittlecity.com
I recently shared the above picture of the vintage paint by numbers wall mural Will and I did years back on Instagram and got some questions about it. So I thought I would share our little video about the process again. The video isn't very long but definitely gives you an idea of what it took to do it.

Wall Mural Time Lapse from Will Hyler on Vimeo.
This is still one of my favorite projects ever! While it was extremely time consuming and at times a little scary standing on our little makeshift scaffolding we had a blast doing it. If you want to see more pictures of the process you can check out my original post.

Would you guys ever paint a wall mural in your place?

Delaware State Fair

Delaware State Fair - littleladylittlecity.com
After about six years of going to visit Will's parents in Delaware we finally made it to the State Fair. It started to be a running joke with Will and I because somehow even if we were in Delaware at the time we would always miss the fair. We always made plans to go, but somehow just missed it. Well, not this year, and I'm glad because it was really fun.
Delaware State Fair - littleladylittlecity.com
I don't think I had been to a big State Fair since I was in high school We have been to a little tiny county fair out in West Virginia, but truth be told it was all kind of depressing. Thankfully, this one was pretty darn fun. Lots of rides, and even more food!! I'm such a sucker for really delicious but probably deadly fair food. This time I was very proud of myself and only had one delicious funnel cake as a treat, instead of gorging on everything until my stomach ached, haha!
Delaware State Fair - littleladylittlecity.com
Delaware State Fair - littleladylittlecity.com
We went all out and took a ride up on the ferris wheel which was really beautiful. I discovered, though, that I apparently don't do well with a combination of heights and swaying. As soon as we were halfway up my brain jumped straight into fear mode and my hands quickly grabbed the center pole (like it would save me), haha. I was only brave enough to take a picture, then quickly handed my phone to Will and asked him to snap a couple more. All in all we had a really great time. Do you guys ever check out the State Fair in your neck of the woods?

Oh Hai! A Road Trip Recap

Oh Hai a Road Trip Recap - Littleladylittlecity.com
Long time no write, am I write? Haha! Well we have almost made it back to the mountain, but we had a detour up to the Boston area for a wedding before heading back down to Delaware to spend sometime with Will's parents. As usual, I had good intentions of doing at least a couple posts while traveling, but once we were on the road I basically said screw it and just enjoyed the ride. Best decision ever! Seriously, I just enjoyed the sites, my sir, and the cats. It was wonderful. However, I'm back now with a little bit of an update from our travels.
In past years we've done our cross country trip at lightening speed (we've done it about 6 times, so we've seen almost everything we want to see on that drive already), and usually we just want to make it to the other side asap. This time, though, we decided to slow things down and not kill ourselves. It was pretty nice having our little camper with us and not have to take clothes, cat stuff, and, computer stuff out of the car and into a hotel room every night. Just rolling up to our campsite, kicking back, and relaxing right away can be pretty nice. Even so, we are still pretty darn exhausted from the driving.
Oh Hai a Road Trip Recap - Littleladylittlecity.com
Oh Hai a Road Trip Recap - Littleladylittlecity.com
Wigs and Sylvester once again proved themselves to be amazing little travelers. Sylvester, in fact, has come leaps and bounds from our last drive across country. Usually he likes to hide under the passenger seat for at least the first 4 to 5 hours of the drive, but this time he only hid under the seat for about 5 minutes before climbing up on the back seat and stretching out. I have a feeling they are pretty excited to not be a car at least for the next couple of days too, hehe.

So what have you all been up too since I've been away? Share your posts in the comments I would love to check them all out!

Happy Birthday to the Cats!

Happy Birthday to the Cats! Chewy.com Review - littleladylittlecity.com
It's no secret that we love our cats, so it should be no surprise that we celebrate our cat's birthdays around here, haha. When Wigs and Sylvester's adorableness caught the eyes of the lovely people over at Chewy.com they contacted me about reviewing one of their cat products, The Honest Kitchen Treats Wishes. After taking a look I thought they sounded like the perfect treat to celebrate some birthdays! For the event I made birthday hats that I swear they loved wearing, and they feasted on some super yummy fish treats. I'm not going to lie, I think these might be some of the cutest pictures of that I've taken of these two little furballs, and Will doesn't look bad either, hehe.
Happy Birthday to the Cats! Chewy.com Review - littleladylittlecity.com
What initially caught my eye with these treats is that they're 100% freeze dried haddock. Our two puff balls are all about fish in this house, so much so that Will can hardly have a tuna sandwich without drawing an audience that would be happy have whatever he couldn't eat. Another thing I like is that these treats can be given to both cats and dogs. Each piece is pretty large, so they might be geared a little more towards dogs, but you can easily break them into smaller pieces for cats too. Wigs and Sylvester both seemed to really like the treats, though they were a little confused about why it was so dry. Wigs would take a bite then look at me kind of confused before committing to chewing it up. So, to make it easier, I put the dehydrated treat under the faucet to add some moister and they gobbled the treats up! Looks like they prefer their fish to be wet, haha.
Happy Birthday to the Cats! Chewy.com Review - littleladylittlecity.com
And because this review was for cat treats I had to ask the cats what they thought as well:

Wigs - "meooooow"
Sylvester - *sniff sniff* "mew"

Glowing reviews all around!

What kind of treats do you pets go bananas for?

What I'm Watching - Mr. Robot

What I'm Watching - Mr Robot on USA - littleladylittlecity.com
I'm such a sucker for a visually beautiful TV show or film, and USA Network's new show Mr. Robot is definitely that. I can forgive many for their failings so long as there's pretty cinematography or visual effects, but not all *cough* Jupiter Ascending *cough*. Thankfully, with this show, there's lots to enjoy visually, but that's not all.
What I'm Watching - Mr Robot on USA - littleladylittlecity.com
The show follows Elliot (Rami Malek), a loner cyber security specialist by day and a vigilante hacker by night. After meeting a mysterious man who Elliot refers to as Mr. Robot (Christian Slater), he learns he has a chance to go after a group of multinational CEO's who are involved in much more insidious business than his normal take downs.

The opening line of the show is "Hello Friend" and from that moment on we have an inside look into what Elliot is thinking and planning on doing. Malek's monotone and yet melodic voice sucks you in, really making you feel close, or at least invested in him pretty early on. The footage moves between a cool desaturated color pallet to bright and colorful one that illustrates how he sees the world vs. how he images things. It is very reminiscent of the use of color in Hannibal (RIP), and is something you don't often see on basic cable shows. This style paired with the hypnotic trance like (at times) soundtrack playing throughout the show had me shocked at how quickly the hour or so went by.
What I'm Watching - Mr Robot on USA - littleladylittlecity.com
Don't get me wrong, I am loving this show so far (rest of the season don't fail me now), but there definitely are some stupid tropes that are hard to miss. A few good examples: 'X kind of mental disorder equals a kind of super power', in love with the best friend (maybe manic pixie, too early to tell) who makes you want to be a better person, an evil corporation out to ruin the world, and the use of real-world imagery/events to show the downfall of society. However, if the rest of the season looks and feels as good as the pilot, I'm inclined to overlook these faults.

I think in recent years the USA Network has been moving towards shows that are darker, like Rush, instead of lighter fare like Royal Pains. So far Mr. Robot is the network's biggest departure in this direction. However, those darker shows haven't done so well with the typical USA crowd, so fingers crossed Mr. Robot sticks around or at least catches the eyes over at Netflix if it doesn't win over audiences. It's already picked up for a second season, yay! So what do you think, are you going to give Mr. Robot a chance?

The pilot episode is available on demand with a new episode tonight and every Wednesday 10/9C.

Can we all just take a second and admire the adorable illustration Will did for me and this blog series! I am so in love with it! Now if I could only get the cats to sit through a whole show/movie with me, haha!

Summer Sun and Thrifted Shirts

Summer Sun and Thrifted Shirts - littleladylittlecity.com
I got this shirt over the weekend and I am pretty sure it was meant to be. As I mentioned before things were pretty crappy for me last week, and I've been trying to take my coffee mug's advice to not let stuff get me down. So when I came across this shirt at Goodwill I knew I had to own it. I have been rocking it all weekend, and It's definitely made me smile, which is a plus. Also, please excuse my hair, not only I am in desperate need of some root work but also a hair cut. I've totally been procrastinating on taming my roots just because it takes soooo long.
Summer Sun and Thrifted Shirts - littleladylittlecity.com
Because last week was just so bleh Will and I made sure to take this weekend off and just enjoy ourselves. Saturday we slept in for the first time in a very long time, did some errands around the house, then met up with the family to hangout and have dinner. We went to one of my favorite restaurants, Lo-Lo's Chicken and Waffles, and basically ate more food than one should ever eat in one sitting, haha. They seriously have the best waffles I have ever eaten! Then, yesterday we went and saw Jurassic World with my dad. I thought the movie was fun (nothing great, but fun), however, Will did not like it's stupidity in the slightest. Hopefully the next movie we get to he will enjoy. After the movie we just were pretty lazy and hung out at home, the best way to end a weekend, in my opinion.

This week is jam packed with work for both of us, a lot of boring stuff on my plate, unfortunately, but hopefully I can make a pretty big dent in all of it. So it looks like we will be cooped up all week, which I guess is ok since it's suppose to be 110+ degrees the entire time, ughs. I've been away from Phoenix summers for so long that I'm not use to them anymore. Or at least less use to them, because honestly I'm not sure if you ever get use to these hot days and nights. What are you all up to this week?

Our Two Toned Scamp

Our Two Toned Scamp - Scamp Remodel - littleladylittlecity.com
I just couldn't wait any longer to share just how good our Scamp Bessy looks after her new paint job! She still needs a little more work to be completely done on the outside, but she's seriously come a long way. We spent a total of about five days over the course of two week getting her all prepped and painted. It was crazy hot and a lot of hard work (I think the last two days we worked on her it was well above 100 degrees), so I'm pretty sure we both sweated out at least 1/2 our body weight each day, haha.
Our Two Toned Scamp - Scamp Remodel - littleladylittlecity.com
Our Two Toned Scamp - Scamp Remodel - littleladylittlecity.com
When we decided to give her a new paint job we thought it would be really great to do a two tone look keep with her vintage vibe. I mean, she is 40 years old. We thought yellow and white would look great, and truth be told I think it came out even better than we expected! It looks especially snazzy with black windows and lining around the door, which we will continue around the bottom edge. We are also going to get a new Scamp logo printed out in white for the side.
Our Two Toned Scamp - Scamp Remodel - littleladylittlecity.com
Our Two Toned Scamp - Scamp Remodel - littleladylittlecity.com
I'm so excited with how the painting came out, because honestly we really weren't sure how it would look having never done it before. We did lots of research trying to figure what the best path would be, and we settled on getting a paint gun to spray on the paint. After a small learning curve the painting job went smoothly. Now that the outside is mostly done we will hopefully have time to continue working on the inside. Honestly, it still needs a lot of work. If all we get to are the floors I would such a happy camper as I think think it would do a ton to make it feel nicer on the inside. We still have to figure out what to do about the wall lining which was marred by dark carpet strips that covered grooves in the tough white foam lining. At the moment everything inside is in great disrepair, but hopefully some caulking and a fresh coat of paint will help.
Our Two Toned Scamp - Scamp Remodel - littleladylittlecity.com
We cannot wait to get back out on the road with her and get moving to some much cooler weather!
