Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween everyone! Ever since last year's photo I decided it would be wonderful to continue that tradition, and this year I got Will to join me in the fun! This year we dressed up as Wanda and Cosmo from the Fairly Odd Parents.

I absolutely love Halloween, it's one of my favorite times of the year, especially since moving out East. There is something so wonderful about the crisp air that just makes the idea of trick or treating so much more magical. Unfortunately, we don't ever get any trick or treaters up here on the mountain. It must be too spooky, or perhaps the drive is too long, hehe. This year we heard about a Halloween walk around town that I think we are going to do, I'm super excited!

Are you dressing up this year? If so what are you going to be?

Be sure to head on over to Nicole's blog to see what all the other ladies dressed up as this year!

DC Weekend

Last weekend we were out in DC visiting our friends Hannah and Eric before we head off to Phoenix for a while. I'm pretty sure the majority of our visits involve a a trip to the zoo, because the DC Zoo is seriously the best. First off, it is free (which I am all about), and secondly it has some of the coolest animals and enclosures. I think there were at least two new exhibits since last our last visit.
As you can see Will wore his bear hat, which I think was quite fitting. He got a couple compliments from some young kids hehe. We arrived a little after 10 which was the perfect time because the animals were really lively! The otters were so much fun, running, swimming and chipping, it was just wonderful. They were absurdly cute. The zoo also has sculptures of the animals next to their exhibits so of course we had to do some posing with them.
The best part of the trip was we finally got to see the orangutan climb across the rope bridge! If you follow me on instagram you might have already see the little video I made of it. We'd only see them walk the rope bridge in videos, which lead us to believe that they must have been CGI, ok so maybe not haha. It was so interesting watching them cruise along. Apparently they never fall, but they might poop on your head, hehe.

What is your favorite animal to see at the zoo?

Good Times

Oops I did a little disappearing act last week, I think I was having a little too much fun on our little adventure. I actually didn't even read any blogs while we were out in DE so I have a lot of catching up to do tonight.
I think this was margarita number 5 hehe.
Will's birthday was a lot of fun! As I mentioned before we have a tradition of coming back to DE to spend it with his parents. The night before go out to a Mexican restaurant with our friend Shaye, and then to a scary movie. For the past three years that scary movie has been one of the Paranormal Activity sequels which progressively got worse with each one. Regardless it was our tradition and we always had a blast. Sadly, this year there was no Paranormal Activity movie so we ended up seeing Carrie. It was pretty bad, but watching it a little drunk made it bearable.
On Will's actual birthday we took a nice bike ride down to the beach and then spent the afternoon carving pumpkins while enjoying a banana cake with salted carmel frosting. This cake is wonderful but fair warning the frosting is darn rich. I really love getting to try out new recipes and Will is seriously the best person to make them for because he love everything I make, even if it comes out a little off. He is greatest!
Pumpkin carving is all kinds of amazing, I mean who doesn't love to carve pumpkins?! I think it might be absolutely official that I am a little too obsessed with my cats as I decided it would be fun to carve Halloween versions of them haha! It's not the best carving in the world for sure (Wigs has a witch hat on and Sylvester is wearing a ghost sheet), but I had a lot of fun making it.

Do you guys have any birthday traditions?

Happy Monday!

Meet the Sponsors

You guys are in for quite the treat this Monday because I have got a couple super amazing bloggers for you to check out! I have a feeling you are going to love them just as much as I do!
Hi there! I'm Erin, a Midwestern gal working in the fashion industry. Zero Style is my little corner of the internet to share my pop culture rants, the latest beauty products you need right now (or need to avoid like the plague), and fashion for those of us who aren't exactly sample size.

I am seriously loving this black and white outfit Erin is rocking. She looks beyond incredible.
Hello! I'm Lisa from lala faux bois and I'm a graphic designer, desert dweller, cat lover, and vintage obsessed. Most of all I love to travel and spend too much time planning my next getaway.

I am such a fan of the denim trend right now and Lisa looks incredible in this denim shirt.

What did I tell you, freaking awesome right?! I hope you guys love reading these two blogs as much as I do.

Happy Monday!

Plaid and Stripes

Sylvester is getting so big and freaking adorable, but he doesn't like to sit long enough for photos because he has far too much energy. We've started taking them on walks in the morning to try to tucker them out a little. Otherwise I think they would just be bouncing off the walls haha.

The weather is so wonderful up here on the mountain, nice and crisp, so I finally get to start breaking out the warm hats and long sleeves. I recently have been trying my hand a layering. I'm going the baby steps route and still have a long way to go before I actually master it. I have so much respect for people who are able to layer things and look amazing. I mean, it's a fine line between making your layering look effortless and trying way too hard.
I've seen people in the past layering a maxi dresses with button up shirts so I thought I would give it a go, and I really like how it turned out. Not only was it super comfy, but I thought it added a little extra pop to the dress. I have a feeling this is going to be something I rock while we travel out west in a couple weeks. I'm always on the search for the most comfy of things to wear in a car that aren't just my pjs (which I totally have worn in the past, but I always get strange looks at the gas stations haha). I'm all about just getting up and going when we have 9 hour driving days ahead of us.

As I mentioned before tomorrow we are head back to DE for Will's birthday! We have a wonderful yearly tradition of going out for food and drinks with our friend Shaye, at this really great Mexican restaurant. I seriously cannot wait for some yummy food and margaritas!

Week in Instagram v12

Follow along @littleladylittlecity (leave your username in the comments, I'd love to check yours out!)
  1. Day one of the spooky mountain fog.
  2. Day five of the spooky mountain fog, which pretty much had me thinking I was stuck in Silent Hill.
  3. For ThrowBack Thursday sometimes I come up with some real gems, my high school senior portrait. Seriously I cannot stop shaking my head at my fashion choices back then. A tie really?! I blame having to wear a uniform five days a week for four years, haha. I swear once I got out of high school my style got a little bit better. As for the alligator our mascot was the Gators :)
  4. Another wonderful ThrowBack Thursday featuring my dad's neighbor's 20 pound cat! So cute but so freaking heavy.
  5. My two favorite gents.
  6. Our wood pallet chairs. DIY coming soon, as soon as the sun decides to show its head again.
  7. The fire pit in action when our friends Hannah and Eric came out for the weekend.
  8. Sylvester a.k.a Littlemin on his first official walk outside. I think he is a fan.
  9. Wigs was gnawing on her foot (I think she is allergic to some of the grass outside) so she had to rock on of my socks on her foot for the rest of the day. As you can see from her face she didn't mind it at all hehe.
As the first two photos show the weather has been just super gloomy up here for the past week. I don't think we have actually seen the sun or the town below us in over a week. I'm pretty sure this is how a hundred different horror movies start, hehe. We are starting to gear up for some adventures over the next couple of weeks: this weekend we are headed out to DE to celebrate Will's birthday with his family, then the following weekend we are off to DC to hangout with some of the raddest people we know, and then the following week we pack up our mountain house and head out to Phoenix to spend some of the winter months with my family. I absolutely love the drive out west and hopefully this time we will get to stop at some interesting roadside places along the way.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday.

Little Thoughts

This comic might be the best thing I have come across in a very long time! I've always had problems with being self conscious about my weight, so much so that I would let trends or styles that I loved pass me by because I got it in my head I was too big to look good in them. This happened all the time in high school because I was the largest of my friends, so trips to the mall after school always resulted with me sitting in the dressing rooms telling my friends how cute they looked in that dress or whatever. I remember one time my friend asking my why I never wore x, y, and z, and I told her it's cause I just didn't like the material instead of saying that I hated how fat I looked in them.

It's taken me quite a while to get comfortable in my own skin, and within the past couple of years I've really gotten out of my head and started trying things I love (case in point the maxi dress). That's not to say I still don't have those moments of doubt, but at least those moments aren't happening before I even try a piece on. I still have a ways to go to before being 100% ok with the way I look, but I am definitely going to be going into a dressing room with this mentality from now on, especially when I really love the piece.

Just Our Style

As I mentioned the other day we celebrated our anniversary with sightseeing in the towns around us and a delightful hike, which was perfect. We lucked out that it was such a beautiful day, sunny and not too hot.
We had planned to check out Coopers Rock State Park which was about an hour and a half away, but on the way there we made a little stop in Cumberland, MD. For some reason I was always under the impression Cumberland was ridiculously far away from us, but it turns out not so much. I'm super excited about because it is such a cute little place! They have this little promenade filled with adorable shops and restaurants, I only wish more of them had been open. There also was a scenic train and we just happened to get into town when the train came rolling in, so of course we had to snap a photo or two.
Coopers Rock State Park was absolutely beautiful. Quite a few of the trees have started their transition into fall so my eyes kept jumping from one beautiful color to another. The only downside was the amount of people there. I think I've been spoiled being a freelancer, anytime we have to go anywhere we always do it during the weekday to avoid crowds, hehe.
There was also this old furnace out in the woods that you could walk to, which was pretty cool. During the 1800s it was used around the clock, and employed quite a few people. I always love seeing old things like this, it's fun to imagine what a day in the life of those employees was like. We had a delightful time exploring the furnace and tromping through the woods. I think we might have started a tradition of going on little adventures to celebrate our anniversary :)

Adventures of

(click the image to see larger)
I had a couple of hours free the other day so I thought I would do another 'Adventures of' comic. I feel like by doing more than just one of these comics I have really leveled up in my crazy cat ladiness, haha. But enough about my nuttiness, this is pretty much what every day looks like when Wigs goes to eat, Littlemin just wants to do everything she does. Thankfully after he moves to the other dish Wigs is usually free to once again eat from the first dish. These two are are quite the characters (or at least I think so), so material for this little comic won't be hard to come by.

Do your pets do anything that just crack you up?

Tis the Season for Plaid

Yesterday Will and I celebrated out one year anniversary by hiking and exploring the surrounding towns. It was so much fun, even if we did end up returning home on a backroad that was hellbent on being the most twisty and turny road ever. My poor stomach hehe. When we got home enjoyed homemade pizza and a movie. It was nothing fancy, but it was perfectly us. Thank you for all your sweet comments on yesterday's post. Now onto this dress!
When the lovely people over at eshakti sent me over this dress I fell head over heals in love! It is seriously the perfect fall dress, and as you can see it has pockets!! I feel like that is one of the first things I tell people when I have a dress with pockets. I mean pockets in dresses are flipping amazing so why wouldn't that be the first thing you tell people. I actually had pockets sewn into my wedding dress, that's how much I love them!

I digress, back to this lovely dress. If you haven't ever heard of eshakti you should head on over and check them out. They have so many wonderful pieces, and the best part is you can customize a dress to your measurements! I cannot tell you how many times I have ordered something online only to have it fit weird over my boobs. It's probably one of the worst feelings ever, especially because you usually have to pay to ship it back and return it, ugh. But with eshakti you get a custom sized dress that will fit you like a glove! And for a limited time you can save $25 on your first order, wooo!
I bought these shoes for my wedding last year for two reasons, one: they are super cute, and two: I wanted to make myself taller haha. And while they totally made me taller (there was no tip toe action to kiss my sir during the wedding), they are by no means useful on the mountain haha. So unless we are having a fancy date night out in Winchester they usually sit around until we head out to Phoenix where pretty much all the roads are paved. Regardless I just had to wear them with this dress because I think they are just perfect together, and they make my legs look pretty great too haha!

Things have been nice on the mountain, the leaves are changing colors and falling, and there is a cool crisp feeling in the air. Well there was a crisp feeling in the air, but all of sudden the last couple of days have been crazy warm in the mid 80s. Seems like the weather cannot decide if it wants to really move into fall or hang onto summer haha. Is the weather being as fickle where you are?

You Are My Favorite

Today Will and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary, I can hardly believe that a year has already gone by. It seems like both only yesterday and lifetime ago that we got married. Time can be so strange like that.

Looking back, I sometimes cannot believe I made it through the week leading up to the wedding without having a nervous break down, haha. There were so many things going wrong; the house was no where near done, Will got insanely sick, the cat had fleas, a major project got delayed so we were still working up to the wedding, we still had twelve picnic tables to build the day before the wedding, and a cold front had just moved in. Even with the cards stacked against us everything worked out better than I could have imagined. I had my beyond amazing bride ladies and friends there to help with every step and keep me from breaking down. Will got better, we got rid of the fleas, the tables were built with lightening speed, the project got pushed back until after the wedding, the cold front lifted, and no one cared that the house wasn't done. Everyone was just impressed with us. I like to think my mom was looking down on us and helped make everything better.

I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite photos from the big day.
If you want to see more wedding photos you can find them here Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

The wedding itself was so much fun. There were so many amazing friends, lots of laughs, and a ridiculous amount of dancing. I am so grateful to all the people who came out and lent a hand to our super DIY wedding. We couldn't have done it without you all and we most certainly wouldn't have wanted to.

Yesterday Will and I were both feeling a little bluh about things so Will decided to give himself a little exercise to lift his spirits and mine as well. He thought it would be fun to make a little video about Wigs doing something, so I came up with the idea and Will worked his magic and created this little 10 second video. It's just so absurdly fun! I hope if you are having a bluh day this makes you smile too.

September in Review

Holy moly, I seriously cannot believe September has already come and gone!I feel like I say that every month, haha, but seriously they are just whizzing by. However, before we move forward to October I wanted to share some of my favorite posts from September.
One of my new favorite grilled cheese recipes.

October is going to be such a fun month, not only is it Will's birthday month (we tend to celebrate the whole month hehe), but we will be celebrating our one year wedding anniversary! We aren't sure what we are going to do to celebrate, but we've been tossing around the idea of going on a little hike. So whatever we decide I think it's going to be nice and relaxing. It was such a wonderful year I cannot wait to see what this upcoming year has in stored for us.

What are you guys looking forward to in October?
